Cross of Bagzane Fine Silver Earrings

The cross featured on these earrings is called the Cross of Bagzane, which is the emblem of the 2,000 meter Mount Bagzane, the highest point in Niger.
In the oasis of Agadez, located at the foot of the massive Air Mountains at the edge of the Sahara Desert, Tuareg silversmiths make exquisite silver jewelry. Traditional livelihoods in this part of Niger include traveling with camel caravans, gardening, raising livestock and handicrafts. Tanakra is a part of the Union of Peasants for Self-Development (UPAP), a large handicraft organization in Agadez. Tanakra is made up of 150 artisans located in two villages on the outskirts of Agadez.
Earrings are 96.5% pure silver, higher in purity than sterling silver at 92.5%. Each pair comes in its own colorful bag. Earrings are 2” x 1” and weigh 0.4 ounces.
